THE NEW POSSIBILITIES OF THE PANAMA PORT

After the construction of a third new set of locks ( thanks to the collaboration of the "Grupo Unidos por el Canal - GUPC, Salini Impregilo, Jan de Nul and Constructora Urbana - GUPA) in date June 26, 2016 was finally inaugurated the Panama Canal.

The new third set of locks allows the transit of container vessel breadth up to 49 mt, length 366 mt and with a capacity of 14.000 TEU.
The first official voyage of the channel was performed by Cosco vessel Andronikos, length 300 mt and breadth 49 mt.
Today, 3% of global maritime trade transits through the Panama Canal, a wonder of modern engineering that has allowed to change the history of maritime transport thanks to its strategic location and its new system of locks.
